Marlin Model 49, 12 Ga., 28" Mod. - Take-Down - SN A21XX (Approx. 1926)- Last patent date is Nov. 23, 1909. There were about 3000 of this model produced between 1925 - 1930 and apparently were not cataloged as they were given to stock purchasers as a gift - a fairly scarce Marlin. This one has a perfect bore and about 90% original blue overall with some thinning. The bolt stop does not always release when cycling the action....needs a good cleaning. Gun shows little use. The wood is sound, solid and retains 95% finish. From what I can find about this model, the forend and butt were impressed checkered. This one has a grooved forend and un-checkered butt - however, wood to metal fit looks as if original to gun. A very scarce Marlin and an interesting old shotgun that might fill a gap in a Marlin collection.
