Right barrel is rifled and the left is smoothbore. Lock plates embellised with scroll work and boar's heads and the hammers appear to be dragons. Nipple protectors pivot forward. Beautiful european walnut stock, large cheek rest with rococo foral carving and hand cut checkering in the wrist area and on the forearm. Dog's head motif at the forecap with mother of pearl eyes. Sliding patch box with incise scrollwork , there a several round balls, wadding and patches in the box along with a worm. The rear sling button is horn and the ramrod tip is bone. Trigger guard, buttpalte, front & rear sights, wrist and barrel wedge escutcheons all appear to be German silver. Maker's name an city inlayed in silver wire on top of barrel and on lockplates. There appears to be a small sliver of wood missing just forward of the right lockplate. Right hammer does not hold full cock, the set trigger mechanisim may just need cleaning. Trigger guard screw is a replacement. The Morgenroth family is first noted build guns in mid-17th century. Item appeared simular to others attributed to F. Morenroth in the mid-19th century. The owner's family of this piece does have a German background but this item is more likely a WW2 G.I. 'War Prize'. Condition: Used - See Item Description Caliber: (Other Ammo?)
