Description:
We are offering for sale a very scarce EDWARD MAYNARD 2nd Model CARBINE rifle chambered in .50 caliber. This is an ALL ORIGINAL Civil War era rifle in good overall condition. Last patent date listed on the receiver is Dec.6 1859. These 2nd models were produced between 1863 and 1865 to arm Federal Cavalry units.
20” barrel shows pitting throughout. Front blade sight and two rear flip sights intact. Bore is pitted with some rifling still present. Receiver is in similar pitted condition with “Edward Maynard, Patentee May 27 1851, Dec. 6 1859” on left hand side and “Manufactured by Mass Arms Co., Chicopee Falls” on the right side. Lever action opens breech for loading purposes. Gun appears to be in functioning condition. The wooden stock remains in very good condition. It shows signs of definite use along with some scratches. No breaks or cracks noted. (2) Cartouches lightly visible on stock.
