We remember, during the previous decade's heyday of Metal Frame Smith & Wesson Automatics, repeatedly commiserating with our customers because Smith & Wesson did not make a compact lightweight .45 Auto. That situation changed, of course, with introduction of the first 4513 TSWs with no rail, 1997 – 1999; and then with the CS-45 in 1998. The specimen in the photo is the crown of the series that lamentably ended in 2005, a .45 Tactical Smith & Wesson in Lightweight Stainless with picatinny accessory rail. This one's BDH serial number prefix dates it to mid-2005, the final year of production. Action is what S&W calls Decocker only: from a resting hammer holstered position, the operator draws and fires the first shot with a long smooth double action pull, and then all subsequent shots are short-pull single action until the shooter discontinues the firing session by engaging the decocking lever, which safety lowers the hammer but leaves the pistol ready to fire in double action. Additional safety features include an internal firing pin block to guard against accidental discharge if the pistol is dropped, and a magazine safety that prevents the weapon from firing if the magazine is removed. Specs are as follows: lightweight alloy frame with stainless steel slide, barrel, and slide parts; anodized ambidextrous decocking lever, .260 bobbed hammer and .305 combat trigger; factory Novak style Trijicon 3-dot Night Sights; weight empty 28.6 ounces; magazine capacity 7 + 1 furnished with a total of three magazines; anodized light rail. Surface detractions only amount to moderate holster and carry buffing on the sharp edges, faint buffing on the matte area atop the slide, and moderate slide contact buffing on the muzzle and port areas of the barrel surface. Night sights are very strong, and we estimate they have several years worth of luminosity left. Replacement Hogue Grips have moderate scuffing on the backstrap area, and there is moderate buffing on the front area of the trigger guard and on the front area of the rail. We rate it as Very Good, close to Excellent, finishwise, since we estimate that 85 percent of its original finish is intact. It is in its original gray-hinged blue flat box with correct serial number and S&W Product Code 149649 on the label. Fired brass envelope is dated from June 2005, and we are including a California Compliant cable lock. One of the gray box hinges is missing; if the buyer prefers we can substitute a new unmarked Smith & Wesson box. Photos, at any rate, should suffice for interested parties to judge finish grade for themselves. We're offering this fine, briefly manufactured pistol for only $ 559.95. Not transferable to civilians in Chicago. 2% discount, $563.00 delivered freight paid to the lower 48, if paid by USPS Money Order & not credit card. $ 568.00 delivered to Alaska, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico.
