When John Olin wanted to have title to the strongest side by side shotgun in the world, he went to work and got it done. The Model 21 is an American icon in the double gun world and its reputation is well deserved. A strikingly handsome gun with the finest single selective trigger ever devised, gunners in the know have utilized this Winchester in the field and at the club to shoot thousands of rounds without failure. This particular little 20ga. is delightful in hand, and a delight to the eye appearing as a new gun. There were only about 32,000 model 21's ever produced by Winchester and the 20 gauge guns are in strong demand. Finding one with 26" barrels and field chokes is much harder than finding the typical skeet choked gun, and this gun, sn28477 has a long length of pull and very good shooting dimensions to boot. The most desirable guns were made during the "Production Years" by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. in New Haven, Connecticut as this one was. The Model 21 has grown in value every year and this little double is being offered at a price that will allow you to enjoy the shooting characteristics and when the time comes make a bit of money as an investment vehicle.
The 26" barrels are choked IC/M (.011/.015) with mirror bores, internal bore diameter factory at .618 both barrels, minimum barrel wall thickness a healthy 24 thou right, 23 thou left, no pits, scratches, or dents, 99.9% rust blue, ribs are tight and ring like chimes, ejectors strong and timed, clear sharp lettering, 2 3/4" chambers, all in excellent order.
The action retains 99.9% blue, perfect screws, action tight with lever centered, excellent single selective trigger, trigger guard retains 96% blue, tight on hinge pin, mechanically excellent in every way. These guns are brutishly strong and can handle even the most stout magnum loads with nonchalance.
The straight gripped factory stock and beavertail forearm are highly figured fiddle back Black Walnut in near new condition with all of its finish remaining with superb checkering and wood to metal fit, no cracks or repairs, 14 13/16" LOP to a great leather covered pad, 14 1/16" to the end of the wood, 2 1/4" drop at heel, 1 1/4" drop at comb, 3/16" cast off (can be bent to your specs for about $180 within 10 days of purchase, LOP can be altered as well), a great looking set of wood.
This is a great gun for all your upland hunting and your sporting clays. Priced to sell, there is nothing to fault on the gun and it will serve you well for generations. Weighing in at 6lbs. 15oz. and balanced perfectly between the hands, it has the feel and dynamics of a much lighter gun. The weight is your friend in that felt recoil is greatly reduced and it is much harder to stop your swing which is one of the most common reasons for a miss in the book. Look hard on the internet and you find this Model 21 to be quite a bargain!
