HG0717 It was not until 1993 that Glock’s German neighbors at Heckler & Koch brought forth the solution to many of our objections with the Universal Self loading Pistol, the USP, in 3 different calibers and 7 different variants. Here is the one that has always been the most popular, the Variant I, chambered in 9mm Parabellum or 9mm Luger, THE 9mm. This pistol has served and protected our Carolina neighbors on duty with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department, headquartered in Castle Hayne, North Carolina under the Honorable Sidney Causey, Sheriff during most of its service years. Date code is KF, manufactured in 1995. Action is traditional double action; that is, from a resting hammer position it can be fired with the safety off by means of a long double action pull on the first shot, and subsequent shots by means of a 4 to 4 1/2 pound range single action short pull with a moderate amount of felt creep. Safety lever engages so that a person can carry in cocked-and-locked condition with a single action first shot; safety and decocking levers are on both sides of the frame, fully ambidextrous. The USP’s slide is machined from a single piece of steel, and houses the polygonal rifled 4 inch barrel and firing pin safety. Both slide release and safety lever are extended for ease of operation. Frame is high impact polymer with checkered backstrap and true ambidextrous magazine release. The frame also houses a universal rail system, as the photos show; and HK was the pioneer in this area as well. Sight system is drift adjustable three dot Tru-Dot Night Sights, with 50 to 60 percent strength luminosity from our darkroom inspection. Finish is matte blue. Extreme overall length is 7 5/8 inches; maximum height 5 1/4 inches from rear sight top to floorplate, and grip frame thickness is only 1 1/4 inches at its widest. Weight empty on this 9mm USP is 27 1/4 ounces. This pistol comes with its original Law Enforcement marked 15 round factory HK magazine. HK Quality and accuracy has been demonstrated now for many decades, and the USP has won the respect and admiration of military, police, and civilian marksmen throughout the world. This pistol has been well maintained, and its surface detractions are moderate; slide and metal surface finish show extensive gray coloration, with carry polishing to the grip frame, and whitening to the hammer spur. We classify it as Good Condition, since no more than 30 percent of its finish is affected in our estimation. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. We are including a Department Issue HK box and a California Compliant cable lock.
