I have an original H.B. Anderson 450 Watts built on an P17 Enfield Action, 21 Inch Barrel, tang safety converson, Williams Fool Proof peep site with partridge style front. $1000.00 plus shipping.

I also have a set of Hornady Lott Dies and 100 rounds of new fireformed Remington Brass I will throw in.

This rifle is believed to have been built in the 1950's. The gunsmith is H.B. Anderson of Yakima Washington. Mr. Anderson is credited in Cartridges of the World as having developed the 450 Watts along with James Watts. Mr. Anderson is also credited with building the 450 Watts that O'Connor took used in Africa to kill an elephant. Winchester later adopted the short version of the 450 Watts as the 458 Win Mag. Jack Lott later recreated this cartridge after an unsatisfactory experience with the 458 Win Mag.

The rifle has a 21 inch barrel. I have been firing factory Watts ammo which chronographs at 2240 fps from this rifle.

The rifle balances and points perfectly. The action has probably the smoothest cycling bolt action I have ever handled.

One of the notable modifications to the rifle is a tang safety. The gunsmith milled away the military safety and added an extension to the tang for a tang safety. In addition, the ejector which is known to be the weakest link on an Enfield action has been converted to a coil spring unit.

You will notice from the closeup photo a very skillfully made repair to a crack in the stock where the bolt handle touched the wood. The stock was refinished after the repair and has been sealed inside and out with spar varnish. This gun was definaely not a safe queen and appears to have been hunted with extensively.

This is a classic example of a post war american custom gunmakers art.
