Here is a relic from some of the big name manufacturer's marketing adventures of the 1960s and 1970s. We suspect that a few of our soldiers carried some of this one’s mates in Vietnam. Smith & Wesson had the best success with their leather line, but Colt halfheartedly followed suit occasionally. This is nostalgic WWII or 1950s style vertical shoulder holster for a 4 inch revolver. It is quite stiff, unlined, and has the conventional leather tab tie down and adjustable non-elastic cotton shoulder strap for the wearer's right shoulder. The Colt logo is timidly stamped on the center of the leather web piece, on its back opposite the top of the holster proper. Smith & Wesson marketed more of these than Colt did, and if our memory serves us correctly, they were manufactured by J.M. Bucheimer Company of Frederick, Maryland, for both Colt and Smith. This one's metal band, completely enclosed in the leather strip around its body's cylinder area, is much less stiff than its S&W counterparts were. This holster has either never been used, or used very briefly and sparingly. We detect no insertion or drawing scuffing on its interior, and we cleaned some cobwebs out of it. There is a moderate amount of surface buckling on the web area and on the left shoulder's leather strap. We estimate, however, than no more than 10 percent of the surface area is affected. This holster is period appropriate for any 3 inch barrel medium frame, or 2 to 4 inch barrel Small D Frame Colt Revolver manufactured between World War II and the mid 1980s, even though we do not recommend actually using it unless a person heavily oiled its interior, and perhaps even lined it with some sort of chamois type lining. It held old Mr. Ben Milgrim’s Police Positive very well when we tried it. It will not accommodate a 4 inch Smith & Wesson K Frame, so it will not hold an Official Police, or Commando, or Python sized revolver unless they have a barrel 3 inches or shorter. It will accommodate This holster is a collectable relic in its own right, much scarcer than its already-valuable Smith & Wesson competitor pieces. We're offering it for only $ 125.00
