L.C. Smith Pigeon Grd 12ga.- LIVE BIRD GUN, CONDITION!!

The L.C. Smith Pigeon Grade was a low production gun with just 1214 guns produced in all gauges, only 1170 in 12ga., the Pigeon Grade is a "Pre-1913" Elsie with special attention to detail not found in standard production guns from Hunter Arms. The barrels/action provide the extra strength required for competitive shooting with great attention paid to boring and choke to produce the best patterns. Additionally, the locks were hand honed to perfection for the fastest lock time possible. This gun, sn204368 made in 1905, was produced without a safety, hence the "live bird gun" moniker. Most Pigeon Grades were used hard having little finish remaining or have been restored in one way or another. This Elsie is an exception, retaining most all of its original factory finishes. Live Bird guns are specially made, as the company's reputation was made on the success of the competitors. Few are ever seen for sale. A safety can be easily installed on this gun if the buyer so chooses (best not to alter this gun and its history!, but for the clay target fan this gun is set up right. I carry live bird guns in the field with shells in the chambers and the gun broken open for safety, closing the gun as I mount, much the same as hammer guns are utilized. With the gorgeous French walnut, excellent factory checkering, lots of case color, deep factory blue, this gun is an exceptional investment quality gun that would be the perfect Trap and Sporting Clays gun. Weighing 8lbs. and balancing 1/2" ahead of the hinge pin, the gun will swing smoothly and felt recoil will be minimal. Built on the regular frame, she will withstand many thousands of rounds with no mal affects.

The 30" nitro steel barrels have mirror bores choked M/F (.017/.032) with factory bore diameter of .729 each barrel, minimum barrel wall thickness of 33 thou right, 32 thou left, 95% deep factory blue, 2 3/4" chambers, tight ribs, no dents or dings, double ivory sights, strong ejectors, tight on breach face and hinge pin, a few very minor pits in the left barrel just back from the muzzle, crisp lettering and engraving, otherwise the best original barrel condition I have seen on a pre-1913 Elsie.

The regular weight frame is spectacular, with 95% vivid factory case color, perfect screws, clean sharp engraving, action tight with lever right of center, crisp and flawless single selective trigger with pulls of 3 1/2lbs. right, 4 3/4lbs. left, trigger guard retains 85% factory niter blue, action clean and shiny inside, really a super find.

The English style, French walnut, oil finished stock retains excellent finish and checkering, no cracks or repairs, absolutely perfect wood to metal fit with no splinters or flaws, 13 1/2" LOP to the factory checkered butt from a REAR POSITION SINGLE TRIGGER (would measure 14 1/2" to front trigger if it were a two trigger gun, stock not short!), 2 1/16" drop at heel, 1 5/16" drop at comb, neutral cast, superb shooting dimensions (can be bent to your specs for about $180), splinter forend in same condition as butt stock, just a gorgeous set of factory original wood. There is little oil soaking and the head of the stock is perfect inside and out. The gun has been shot and there are minor handling marks in the wood. The fit and finish of the wood to action shows the special attention to detail that was paid in producing this fine Pigeon Grade.

You will see Pigeon Grades priced for less money, but they simply do not compare to this gun. Factory original, high condition guns demand a premium, and as the true collectibles are put away there are fewer and fewer available for sale. That is what truly distinguishes this fine Elsie from others; HIGH FACTORY CONDITION! THE PRICE DOES NOT INCLUDE THE CASE, WHICH CAN BE PURCHASED SEPARATELY FOR $800. Don't miss out on one of the finest Pigeon Grade Elsies left on the plan
