This is a Weatherby Mark XXII semi-auto made in Italy. This version of the Mark XXII was made in limited quantities by Beretta in the mid-1960's for three years before the production was moved to Japan. The Beretta version is preferable and collectable and typically fetches substantially higher prices than the version made in Japan. Not only is the wood of a higher grade and has a richer look, but the design of the stock is cleaner. The Japanese version added a rosewood tip on the forearm with matching ornamentation elsewhere on the stock. Original owner used this gun in the woods in younger days and it has average wear and tear, including a few dings in the wood and a bit of crinkle in the varnish as is typical of these rifles. It is priced lower accordingly. Nevertheless it remains an excellent firearm. Serial number is 10618.
