This cased, British revolver is almost identical to the revolver pictured in Bruce's book, "Webley Revolvers," page 51, figure IV/1. The Open Frame Model was the first Webley revolver to take the center-fire cartridge and was produced in 1865. This particular revolver is in excellent condition with much of the original, bright, shiney blue remaining. It shows little use with the blue just flaking rather than showing wear. It has a six inch, octagon barrel and both the front and rear sights are dovetailed into the top flat of the barrel. Bruce says on the same page referenced above: "Both front and rear sights were dovetailed onto the upper surface of the barrel." He states further, "It featured an octagonal barrel of 6" held to the frame by a screw." This one is made in the same manner. It has six chambers and takes a .38 cartridge. It has many British proofs. It was retailed by Westley Richards. The case is also in excellent condition with an ebony cleaning rod and small, oil bottle with a Westley Richards label in the lid. The barrel is marked, "Westley Richards and Company New Bond Street London." Additional, detailed photos available on request so you can make up your own mind. A rare set in excellent condition.
