From one of our Tennessippi-ized and very talented Illinoisans comes this pristine Marlin 336 CS, one of the first of its variants, manufactured in President Reagan's reelection year of 1984. That was, of course, the introductory year for the somewhat unpopular but legally very necessary cross bolt safety, since none of the manufacturers quite had room for the words, Do Not Be So Stupid As To Pull A Loaded Rifle Up A Tree By Its Muzzle, on the barrel. The only surface detractions to this rifle are a small bubbly streak to the semi-gloss finish on the left side of the pistol grip near the top tang, and faint bolt contact whitening on the hammer face only. The loading gate is 100 percent blue, and we do not believe this 336 has ever been loaded, much less fired. We rate it as 98 percent, Near Mint, but photos should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. Specs are type, lever action repeating rifle; capacity 7 + 1 rounds of .35 Remington cartridges; entire blue steel construction with American Walnut buttstock and forend; 20 inch Micro-Groove barrel; lever safety and cross-bolt receiver safety; 13 1/4 inches length of pull with 38 1/4 inches Over All Length. Weight empty is about 7 3/4 pounds. Replacement price on new 336-CS .35 rifles in our area is $500 apiece or more, if a person can even find one.
