We traded for this distinctive Smith & Wesson Military & Police Hand Ejector, a pre-Model 10 if you please, from one of our friends in Nevada, and one of its most distinctive traits from a masterful rework after WWII is the custom Deadwood finish to its original walnut handle panels. It also underwent a barrel change and jewelling job to its hammer and trigger sides by someone who was quite good at it, probably a returning serviceman turned gunsmith. Mating of the barrel’s forcing cone to the cylinder face is a very nice .008 gap. Timing is a little off, not bad. A person can make the hammer break without the cylinder timing completely only on a veeerrryyy ssllloooowww trigger pull in double action, about every other time. A similar situation holds with single action. In either mode of firing, however, on a normal trigger pull, the cylinder times correctly. Bore and cylinder chambers are bright, clean, and excellent. Lateral play, or wobble effect to the cylinder is 1.5 to 2mm total lateral movement with the trigger relaxed, and only about 1mm total with the trigger pulled. We consider this revolver to be Good to Very Good mechanically, then; and a similar state as to finish. Lt. Col. Drewry’s initials are faintly visible atop the frame, and a a faint remnant of an ordnance marking remains on the upper left side of the frame. Right side markings are almost full strength, and screw stress indications are minimal to moderate on all six screws. Note that the butt serial number has been ground off for removal of the lanyard, but the cylinder serial number, the real serial number, is 6598xx, dating it to some time in 1941. Note the strength of the old rework bluing job, 60 to 70 percent by our estimate. In addition to the jewelling work on the hammer and trigger sides, the top of the hammer has classing pre-War S&W checkering in its metal. The real prize feature, on our view, to this revolver is its custom barrel rib with the hand-cut accord pattern engraving that extends the entire length of the rib. Rib is very well fitted, too, with no visible gaps anywhere. Own this fine, nostalgic Victory, expertly re-worked shortly after the War, for only $ 329.95
