This pistol’s ancestor came seriously into play during the Nazi Army’s Siege of Leningrad in 1943. Designer was Partisan Alexandr Sudayev, and it got its name Pistolet Pulemyot Sudayeva from him, PPS. It gave Red Army soldiers a relatively light weapon with substantial firepower from the 7.62x25, .32 Tokarev cartridge, with muzzle velocities over 1600 feet per second. The PPS series submachine guns served with friends and foes during World War II and throughout the Cold War, from West Germany to Vietnam. Photo specimen is Inter Ordnance’s civilian legal PPS43C pistol. Manufacturer is Pioneer Arms of Radom, Poland, the center of production of the best PPSes all along. Importer is Inter Ordnance of Monroe, NC. Type is blowback action semi-automatic pistol. Construction is entirely blued steel, with black polymer pistol grip. Barrel is 10 inches, 12 inches from the breech face to the end of the muzzle brake or protector. Overall length is 24 1/4 inches. Capacity is 35 + 1 Rounds of 7.62x25mm or .32 Tokarev Caliber ammunition, one of the most popular and effective rounds in the world. This pistol is furnished with a total of 4 matte blue steel magazines. Folding stock assembly is permanently welded onto the receiver, to keep this pistol off of NFA Status, and anyone foolish enough to attempt to free it needs to think about 10 years in Federal Prison, not to mention a quarter million dollar fine. Weight empty is 7 pounds, with the center of gravity under the bolt handle.
