Additional information
In the fall of 1861, Wilhelm I, King of Prussia, later Kaiser Wilhelm the great, founder of the German Empire, was hunting on his estate near Brandenberg when he fell off his horse, landing on his gun, breaking the stock, and discharging it into his leg. The King gave the broken gun to his guide, Friederich Pomrenke, who brought it to the United States in 1866, crudely wired up the stock, and hunted with it until 1920. It is an elegant 17mm (16 ga.) percussion fowler made by F. Mundt of Neuwedell, Prussia (now Durow, Poland). It has back action locks, silver inlays with extensive game engravings, german silver furnishings and a carved stock, expertly restored. The sling and ramrod components are replacements.
