Description: The M1 Carbine was initially deployed at the outset of WWII as a lightweight, semi-automatic alternative for specially trained or non-front line soldiers for whom the M1 Garand main battle rifle was unsuitable.

This all original specimen was produced by Inland Manufacturing, a division of General Motors, in August of 1944. The receiver and trigger group have Inland markings. The barrel is labeled “Underwood 4-44” and is further marked with the flaming bomb insignia; the front sight is “EU” stamped (Underwood sub-contractor). The buttstock shows the U.S. crossed-cannon ordinance wheel stamp and an “HI” (Inland subcontractor Hillerich & Bradsby Co.) mark in the sling well. There are no re-armoring, re-build, re-finishing or importation indications anywhere on the stock or elsewhere. The period correct 4 rivet upper forestock has an “HI” mark underneath. The unit has the push button magazine release (marked “M” for modified, which is period correct), proper push button safety and period correct Type 2 barrel band. The adjustable rear sight (still has watch-like precision) is late war correct, stamped with “I.R. Co.” representing sub-contractor International Register Co. for Inland. The buttplate is unmarked, with square checkering, period correct and in good condition, with some finish fade. The absence of a bayonet lug is also indicative of a WWII original. The wood overall is in very good condition, with no cracks or splits and only small surface imperfections commonly found on wartime firearms. All metal surfaces are in very good condition showing the typical greenish patina resulting from oxidized oiling over a mil-spec parkerized finish; the bore is bright and shiny with rifling. There is no rust or pitting anywhere on this specimen. There are many Inlands out there, but very few are in original, unmolested condition like this one.

This listing also contains the following accessories:

Oiler: Original USGI WWII issue M1 Carbine oiler with “IS” marking (International Silver Company) enclosed in a circle on the bottom of the body; new old stock.

Stock Mag Pouch: Original USGI WWII issue M1 Carbine stock mag pouch, designed to hold two 15 round magazines. “U.S.” stamped on the front; “Rubon K. C. 1943” stamped on back; mint condition.

15 RD Magazines: Three (3) original USGI WWII issue M1 Carbine 15 round magazines. “U” or “IU” (Underwood) manufacturer’s mark on each. One (1) unit is new old stock, still in its original wax paper wartime wrapping. All mags are in very good condition, with strong bluing and showing only tiny spots of rust here and there.

30 RD M1 Magazine: One (1) 30 round M1 Carbine magazine. “AYP” (Fabrique Nationale) marked. These were produced by FN for NATO military use after WWII and are well-known to match USGI versions in quality and reliability. Very good condition.

Sling: Solid “D” clip, OD green cotton sling with “MRT” (Mildew Resistant Treatment) military marking and other illegible marking. “Lift the Dot” stamped on fastener. Single steel buckle. USGI, in good condition, but most likely 1950s Korean or 1960s Vietnam era; not WWII.
