This Smith & Wesson .38 Special Bodyguard Stainless, numbered model 649, has served and protected our fellow Americans during its career, and it has been well maintained and not abused. It has been professionally refinished to matte stainless by our friends at D G C Custom Gunsmithing in Millington, TN, and residual surface scours from its law enforcement career are minimal or negligible. Photos, at any rate, should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. Few if any +P rounds have been fired in this revolver, attest the negligible blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap. It is excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. This fully traditional, no suffix variant of the Bodyguard Stainless is identical to the classic blue steel bodyguard except for being a stainless. This one is classic short J frame. Its frame's extended area that surrounds the hammer, gives sufficient added strength that our local owners of these pre-Magnum-J frames have experienced no problems using +P ammunition in them. Specs are: traditional double- and single-action revolver, 2 inch barrel; 1/10 inch serrated ramp blade front sight with fixed notch rear sight; .312 Satin Stainless Trigger; .240 Serrated Satin Stainless Shrouded Hammer; five shot capacity with internal transfer hammer block safety mechanism; and period correct Sile Rubber Combat grips.
