As nearly as we can determine, Tecnar brand was an economy variant marketed by Swift Optical in the 1960s, likely through Pre-Wal-Mart chain stores like S.S. Kresge. This set comes to us from an Ohio retired Teamster who used them during his hunting career. These binoculars are excellent mechanically, and we see no detractions or scouring on their lens coatings. They are in their original leather-covered case. Note that the case is frayed at the bottom, and that its carrying strap has been replaced by nylon twine. Note, too, the well made Japanese clasp mechanism, 4 stainless springs, on the case closure strap. Binocular strap proper has been replaced by a sturdy, wide 1980s Op/Tech strap. These binoculars are 7 power, 50 mm objective lenses; and they are well preserved and clear. Specific model number is 35206; we believe that is a model variant number and not a serial number. Surfaces exhibit moderate wear to the edge enamel at the junctures. Eyepieces are both individual focus; this is a high-tech set of binoculars for the 1960s. The chief assurance of their quality and value is the word Japan for country of origin, and that sets them apart from the current flood of Chinese made product.
