A.H. Fox A Grade- 30” HEAVY #1 WEIGHT BARRELS- CONDITION!
This is a 1928 Fox made for waterfowling, turkey hunting, or crushing hundreds of targets in an afternoon. It is rare to find these fine doubles with the heaviest struck #1 weight barrels and with 30” barrels they make for very popular shooter/collector guns in today’s market. This one is in very nice factory original condition, untouched by any restoration artist’s hand and weighs in at 7lbs. 10oz. Not too heavy to tote afield, but heavy enough to absorb much of the recoil of heavy loads.
The 30” Chromox steel barrels are choked M/F (.022/.042), internal bore diameters of .730/.728, minimum barrel wall thickness of 33 thousandths and 41 thousandths, mirror bores, no pits or scratches on the outer barrels but plenty of handling marks, 90% blue, 2 5/8” chambers (can have the chambers lengthened and forcing cones lengthened for $150, and this gun can be made into a 3” gun if you so desire), ribs are tight and barrels chime like church bells, no dents, just a great set of barrels for heavy work.
The receiver has fully 90% case color remaining, with most of it vivid and bold, the engraving is still clear and sharp, screws are perfect (maybe unturned), double triggers, trigger guard retains 98% factory niter blue, action is tight as new on face with the lever well right of center, barrels are still tight on hinge pin, really a tight as new gun.
The ½ round pistol grip stock feels nice in hand, with factory original checkering still clear and crisp, no cracks, splits, chips anywhere, factory original finish scratched and flaking in some areas, 14 3/8” LOP to factory butt plate, 14 1/16” to end of wood, 2 5/8” drop at heel, 1 9/16” drop at comb for great shootable dimensions, splinter forend has all the checkering with no wear, excellent wood to metal fit. There is even a little fiddleback figure in the wood. You don’t often find a gun this nice with full length factory wood. I can have the stock bent to your specifications or a pad added for a small extra charge and can have the work done in 10 days or less.
If you are a waterfowler or like to shoot heavy loads, this is the best American double to do it with. The Fox action is stout and these barrels were made for the heavy work of a target shooter or hunter that is trying to reach waaaay out and drop birds dead. With the long, steady taper of the chokes the patterns on these Philly Fox guns were deadly, much more so than modern guns. A Fox in this high original condition is a great investment and will continue to grow in value as long as you take proper care of it.
I have more photos of this gun upon request. This fine Fox comes with a 30 day full mechanical warranty. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER FINE VINTAGE FIREARMS ON THIS WEBSITE. Just click on the line that says “see all items from this seller” and a great list of fine shotguns and rifles will appear. I have many guns not yet listed and many friends with fine collections. If you are looking for something and don’t see it just ask. I probably can help you out. Thanks for looking!
