I ran across this fine little gun in Chantilly a year or so back. I thought the guy who traded it was nuts when he said, "I have a really nice gun here; its an Iver Johnson." I was always of the notion that "Iver Johnson" and "really nice gun" did not belong in the same sentence...I was pleasantly surprised to find that this is one truly fine piece of work. The gun is a 20 gauge with very nicely figured wood. The finish is as nice as it could be. Beavertail forend. Single selective Miller trigger . Three way selector on safety. The rib is solid and the straitions running down it are not full lines, but rather--a series of smaller squiggly lines--breaking up glare that might occur if it is shot in direct sunshine. As I understand it, there were about 1600 of these guns made in total from 1936-1941(+ or -); most of them being .410s, the 20 ga. being more rare. It is the first one I have ever seen, and is in exceptional condition. The breech plate shows no circles as if having been fired, the bluing likewise, is almost perfect (although the stock shows some extremely minor wear around the trigger guard), making me wonder if it may have been reblued at some time in the past---I truly do not know--but if it was, it was done extremely well and is not discernable as a recondition job. Take a look at the photos. Feel free to ask more questions if you would like. I speak fluent shotgun, am always ready to talk shotguns; and would rather answer questions now than later. I can take closeups of anything we may have missed that interests you upon request, but have tried to show the gun as honestly as possible. Thanks for looking! Shep Burton The Gunrunner,LLC
