One of two things: either the German Army captured this rifle and used it on their Eastern Front during World War II, or it stayed domestic and participated in resistance to the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia. Over half the VZ-24 rifles, produced from 1924 until 1941, went originally to the Czech Army. This specimen is nowhere Nazi proofed. Stock is original; its number matches the receiver’s 5700 range number. Floorplate is etched with the matching number; the bolt handle, however, is milled on its top side with a mismatched number. Barrel is marked with Century Arms’s markings. Surface wear is only moderate to the metal; original bluing is still quite strong with moderate freckling and edge whitening. The never-blued bolt surfaces show modeate brown freckling as the photos show. Stock shows substantial amounts of scouring and pecking, but we do not see any cracks anywhere. We rate this VZ 24 rifle as Good, perhaps Very Good, 70 percent vicinity, depends on how one rates the stock. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore shows etchy texture throughout in the rifling grooves, rifling lands, however, are strong and with no significant pits on them. Chamber and mechanism are clean and excellent. Barrel measures 24 inches; overall length 43 1/4 inches; and length of pull from the trigger face to the end of the original steel buttplate is 13 inches. This rifle comes to us from a young local collector.
