HGE29R9DP With so many high quality pistols on the market for the past few years, we hesitate to say which one it best; here, however, is our pick for that award, grudging as it is from us single action enthusiasts. Here is the best quality 9mm Mid Sized Compact pistol on the market, emphasis on best more than on Compact. It is the smallest variant descendant of the definitive P226 type, the P-229R in a special limited production Diamond Plate two tone finish. The entire pistol is manufactured by Sig Arms here in the US at Exeter, NH. Slide is stainless, with special serrations that indicate the strength of this pistol’s constitution, named the Diamond Plate. Frame is Nitron finish lightweight alloy and barrel and internal parts are nitron finished steel as well. Note the new configuration; this Sig’s grips also act as the mainspring housing. Sig’s home pages indicate that the Diamond Coat 226 pistols have aluminum alloy grips; this 229’s grips are clearly marked by Hogue on the right panel’s inside, as the photos show, and one of the panel edges that fits beneath the grip frame strut shows a speck of white on its edge. Interior grip flats, however, are polymer. Grips, then, may very well be a combination of polymer and alloy, made by Hogue for Sig. Each pistol is totally factory issue. Caliber is 9mm Luger, 9mm Parabellum, 9mm NATO, 9x19, call it what you will, The 9mm. Barrel is 3.9 inches 6 groove 1:10 rifling; weight empty is 32.5 oz; Tritium three dot Siglite Night Sights; overall length 7.10 inches; height 5.1 inches; maximum width 1.5 inches; 5.7 inch sight radius; 10 pound double action trigger pull; and Sig's classic crisp single action pull at 4.4 pounds. As the photos show, this variant of the 229 has the integral Picatinny light or accessory rail built into its frame. Capacity is 15+1 rounds, and this pistol is furnished with a total of two 15 round Sig factory magazines, new style parkerized finish with serrated body, made by Mec-Gar for Sig. None of the few specimens we have received so far have contained a fired brass case; we can easily, however, remedy that for any of our buyers in Maryland or New York. Replacement price on this pistol in our area, if a person can even find one, is upwards of $900.00.
