Description: For sale is my old Field Model Ithaca double-barrel SxS full-choke shotgun circa 1915. Flues Model manufactured in 1915. The “L2” found on the gun’s watertable indicates the gun is a 12-Gauge. The “L” printed above this means the gun is a Grade 1. On several occasions Ithaca used an “L” to signify a “1.” The serial number is 260894 and this number is visible on the receiver, barrels, and the forearm. The receiver is stamped L2 along with a maker's mark. There is also a stamp that declares the gun as nitro powder approved. The barrels themselves are stamped with "Krupp Fluid Steel". The receiver has decorative engravings, as does the trigger guard, and there is a bird dog flanking both sides of the receiver below the breach. The stock is in VGC overall with some scratches and dings. The stock decoration/carving is in VGC appearing crisp and without much blemish or damage. The black Ithaca company butt-end-piece on the stock is VG and recognizable, again with sharp edges and without much wear for a 100-year old shotgun. After loading and shooting, move the lever to the right to break the barrels from the receiver and the ejectors will pop the empty spent shells from both barrels. Reload and snap the barrels back into position for your next round. The safety/fire mechanism has three positions, and this has control from the previous shot. If the safety was forward it returns to the middle safe position on reload automatically, if the safety was back then it remains ready to fire upon reload. You can slide the safety forward or back to fire from the middle position, but for safety the safe mode is the middle position and it works.

I used this old shotgun as my dove and quail gun when I was a teenager during 1987 to 93, and I just don't shoot anymore. The history of this firearm is that it was purchased and owned by my father's great-uncle and then handed down circa 1965. My father trained me on a .410 bolt-action and once I got the hang of that he let me shoot this double barrel for dove, quail, and a few pheasants. The gun had very few pheasant loads used during this time and has mostly been used with light bird loads for dove and quail -2.5 inch shells. It is in very good working condition for a 100 year old gun. The last time I fired it was about 6 years ago to shoot some trap. It performed very well then, with the ejectors and safety still working. The gun has remained idle since approximately 2009 and has not been fired recently. The right and left barrels show pitting near the end of the shells on the inside, and the v-shaped bead/sight has a hairline crack where it meets with the barrels (see photo). There is more pitting on the right side which is likely the first barrel shot from the double triggers. The 2nd rivet is missing from the left side of the receiver closest to the triggers -the metal is not loose at all around the receiver because of the missing rivet. The inside of the barrels still show their mirror-like finish that is customary of firearms. There is no case included in the sale, just a gun sock.

If you require expert examination and/or working knowledge of this shotgun then I can have a gun shop test and fire the gun if you are a serious buyer. The results of the licensed FFL dealer test will be passed on to the buyer for a more confident purchase if needed. Extra costs may apply. Thank you for your interest in this very nice Ithaca Shotgun.
