Ruger exercised innovation and leadership in the 1980s with the introduction of the first 5 shot .357 Magnum, but all of us couldn't help but notice the weight of the SP-101. In 2009, with its LCR Revolver initially chambered only in .38 Special, Ruger became the first producer of a polymer frame wheel gun. 2010 saw Ruger’s introduction of its LCR in .357, and in 2011 Ruger offered its first rimfire LCR in .22 Long Rifle. Photos show the first specimens we received of Ruger’s LCR chambered in the highly effective .22 Winchester Magnum caliber. Shoppers need to be prepared for a stiff double action trigger pull. At only 13 ounces empty, the LCR Magnum is within striking distance of arch-competitor Smith & Wesson’s 351C, and 2 ounces less than a standard Smith & Wesson Airweight .38. The pressure-bearing surfaces are alloy, and the entire piece follows Charter in being a two-component frame, with pronounced visible separation lines. The cylinder is Ion Bond Diamondblack® finished 400 series stainless steel. This one comes from the factory outfitted with a Hogue Tamer grip. Here is what Ruger says about their latest invention. The Ruger Lightweight Compact Revolver (LCR), a 13 ounce, small frame revolver with a smooth, easy-to-control trigger is now available in 22 Magnum. Packed with the latest technological advances and features required by today's most demanding shooters. Some of these features are Hogue Tamer grips, replaceable, pinned ramp front sights, and U-Notch Integral, rear sights. Specs are Double Action Only Six Shot Revolver with internal hammer and transfer bar internal safety mechanism; caliber .22 Winchester Magnum and capable of withstanding any .22 Magnum Hyper Velocity ammunition no matter how hard their primers. Even if the Russians at Tula begin loading steel case .22 Magnum ammunition, the Ruger will fire it. Barrel length 1.875 inches, nominally 2 inch. The LCR has a Pinned Ramp front sight and U-notch integral rear sight. Finish is matte black. The LCR has Ruger’s internal lock whose operation requires removal of the Hogue Tamer grip, and accesses in the SP type LCR’s grip frame stub. Trigger is .310 smooth face combat type. Trigger pull is necessarily quite stiff on a rimfire like this, 12 to 15 pound vicinity by our estimate.
