Manufactured in 1997. It is said that the Purdey directors gave contract artist 'Cecile Flohimont' complete artistic freedom in the creation of this one-of-a-kind masterpiece. High relief, mythological beasts and intertwined acanthus & foliate scroll are the theme of this full coverage engraving. Right & left lockplates have griffins, rams and other un-nameable beasties with acanthus scroll artfully tangled above darkly shaded background. "J.Purdey & Sons" is on riband on both sideplates. The bottom of the action has stylized dragons, and lion-headed griffins. Snarling feline terminations are on the acanthus scroll which surrounds all. The trigger guard has stylized owl heads as the termination of its devilish scroll. The artists signature is on the trigger plate. More scroll snakes down the tang which reached all the way to the engraved grip cap. The butt plate is a work of art in itself with full coverage griffins, lizards and small beasts immeshed in the ever-present scroll. (It is thought that the cost of the butt-plate alone was 22,000 pounds sterling.) Of course all of this unbelieveable engraving is deserving of the very finest, dark honey colored Circassiam walnut stock which features flame figured and darkly contrasting marbled grain. The semi-pistol grip stock and splinter forend feature 22 LPI checkering with mullered borders. dropper points, Anson forearm release and a blank gold initial oval recessed on the toe line. This masterpiece is protected by a leather Purdey locking case complete with canvas travel cover. The accessories include a brass & ebony 3 piece cleaning rod with horn handle marked "M.Marsh, England", snap caps, Purdey oil bottle, Purdey bench cloth and case keys.
