With US ammunition manufacturers ramping up rimfire production, the Kel-Tec PMR 30 has renewed appearl. This is Kel-Tec’s Desert Tan variant. Manufacturer and warrantor is Kel-Tec CNC of Cocoa, FL. Type is semi automatic rimfire pistol, with a unique hybrid blowback / locked breech system to accommodate a wide range of bullet weights, velocities, and chamber pressures. Chambering is .22 Winchester Magnum caliber, but not all ammunition: Federal Game-Shok 50 grain JHP, CCI Maxi-Mag +V 30 grain JHP, CCI Maxi-Mag 40 grain, Winchester Super-X 40 grain and Remington Premier Magnum 33 grain loads are factory recommended. Non US ammunition like Armscor and Fiocchi; and Winchester Dyna-Point 45 grain and Supreme 30 grain are NOT recommended. Slide and barrel are 4140 steel, frame is 7075 aluminum alloy. Grip, slide cover, trigger, mag release, and safety levers are glass reinforced Nylon (Zytel), much like other Kel-Tec Pistols. Finish is Matte Black. Magazines are both gray finish Zytel and hold 30 rounds, with round count ports. Barrel is one piece light weight fluted, 4.3 inch length with 1:11 six groove right hand rifling. Slide is reinforced polymer with steel runners, captive coaxial twin recoil springs, and urethane recoil buffer. Sights are dovetailed set screw windage adjustable green tube fiber optic front with dual red/orange frame integral fiber optic rear. Frame is two piece with six slot picatinny accessory rail in front of the square trigger guard. Trigger is reinforced polymer .315 smooth face combat type, 4 pound vicinity with moderate creep, about 1/8 inch by our estimate, single action with an over travel stop. The manual safety is frame mounted, thumb activated ambidextrous safety lever (up for SAFE, down for FIRE). The slide locks back after the last shot and has a manual. Magazines are ported side zytel, double stacked type, and each holds 30 rounds of .22 Winchester Magnum caliber ammunition. Note that the magazine release is butt mounted, European style. Each PMR 30 comes in its padlock-able hard shell padded case with protective papers, chamber protector, trigger lock, and instruction manual that includes Kel-Tec’s warranty statement.
