From its low 20000 range, NM suffix serial number, this Colt Gold Cup National Match was manufactured in 1967. Here is what Colt says about their top-of-the-line Government Type .45: The first Colt Gold Cup was introduced in the late 1950’s to give competitive shooters a gun to take directly from the dealer’s shelf to the firing line. It featured an adjustable wide trigger, hand-honed action, adjustable target sights, flat grooved top rib on the slide, and many other refinements as standard. This pistol comes back to us from its original home in neighboring Madison County, Tennessee. The exclusive owner is a local civilian, but he carried the pistol. When we got it, it had a moderate amount of edge wear and residue. It has been professionally refinished by Mr. James Thiel, JW Custom, in Salina, Kansas. Surface detractions, then, are minimal, only very faint residual dotting on some of the edges of the slide and forward frame area. None of the dots are conspicuous or even visible except upon close scrutiny. Slide stop and main safety have a very nice original looking purplish tint. Lettering is sharp throughout with only the barrel marking showing any buffing evidence. We rate this Cup as Excellent refinish, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is certainly excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. From our knowledge of its owner, it has been fired fewer than 500 times. Sights are original Elliason adjustable rear and so marked, stake on low partridge original front; trigger is original serrated face national match with overtravel adjustment; Grips are new replacement, but quite appropriate, Herrett’s cocobolo diamond checkered pattern with Colt logos. Magazines are new replacement, but correctly marked, factory Colt 7 rounders. All equipment with the exception of the two Colt Factory 7 shot magazines, grips, grip screws, and grip screw bushings, are original on this pistol.
