HG5814 From a local Memphis Area civilian owner comes this pristine specimen of our favorite variant of the now discontinued Smith & Wesson 4500 series pistols, the 4566 Commander Size. This pistols VDA serial number prefix meshes with similar ones like it that we received new in 1995; and from its 5193 Special Order number on its label, it was manufactured on the 93rd day of that year, during the week that ended on March 4. It has the Third style trigger guard of the series, round with double serrations for the officer's left hand, even gloved hands. Construction is stainless steel, with dovetailed anodized Novak 3 dot sights. Hammer is .260 factory anodized serrated spur, and the trigger is matching .304 smooth combat. This is a traditional double action 4566; that is, the first shot from a loaded rest position is a long smooth double action pull, then the hammer stands on single action until the shooter uses one of the ambidextrous decocking levers to put the hammer back in the rest position. Main safety is ambidextrous decocking type. It has better safety features than most pistols on the market nowadays, with an internal firing pin block and a magazine safety. Barrel length is 4 1/4 inches, what we call Commander Size; and grip frame is full size steel frame. Weight empty is 38.5 ounces. This pistol comes furnished with a total of two stainless 8-round magazines, yielding an 8 + 1 loaded capacity. Surface detractions are negligible, only faint amounts of slide and bushing contact on the barrel surfaces, and perhaps very faint buffing on the edges. We rate it as Near Mint in Box, since no more than 5 percent of its surfaces are affected in our estimation. Photos, at any rate, should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. It is Excellent mechanically. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Slide bushing contact to the barrel surface is moderate as well, and we estimate that this pistol has been fired fewer than 400 rounds. It is in its original blue hinged flat blue plastic box with instruction manual. Replacement price on the last variants of this pistol produced, the 4566 TSW, was well over $800 when they were discontinued in 2006. We're offering this one, however, for only $ 639.00.
