Sauer 16 Gauge Hammer SxS Shotgun HAMMER GUN, 1911, MODEL 5, SPECIAL ORDER General Specs: JP Sauer, German, Year Pre-1939, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 1oz, Side by Side This is a special order, fine conditioned and unique, high quality hammer gun made by one of Germany's oldest and finest gunmakers. There is a definitive book on J.P. Sauer & Sohn gunmaker, entitled "J.P. Sauer & Sohn" authored by Jim Cate, and he shows an example of a Model 5 on page 77 of his book. We were fortunate enough to have Mr. Cate review photos and details of this particular gun, sn80913, and he let us know that the gun is indeed a Model 5, but of a special order nature as it has a bit more engraving than a standard Model 5 and much nicer wood figure and finish. Also, Sauer had a practice of placing a special "double crown" stamp on the barrel flats indicating this gun had particularly high quality work.
