Available in .45 ACP the design of the M&P, Smith & Wesson considered the needs of military and law enforcement from every conceivable angle. No other polymer pistol offers this combination of versatility, durability and safety. On this specific variant, service size M&P with firing pin and magazine safeties, the M&P leaves its arch-competitor Glock in the shade. This is the standard service size M&P, 4 inch barrel with full size integral rail, black polymer frame and 10+1 rounds of firepower capacity. Please note that its magazine may exhibit some finish freckling. This particular specimen is what we call a factory Demo, one of Smith & Wesson’s showgirls. It was never out of Smith & Wesson Corporate custody until we got it. Surface detractions are negligible to minimal; all we see is some weakness to the finish on the rear sight edges, and perhaps on the release leaver and slide serration edges. We rate it as Near Mint in Box, but photos ought to suffice for our shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Fired Brass case dates to May of 2012, but the MPU serial number prefix indicates a 2007 manufacture date. If it was ever fired after then, no more than 20 rounds by our estimate. It is in its original box with its lock, all its papers and warranty card; its 10 shot magazine; and both its replacement grip backstrap pieces. Specs are as follows. Weight empty, no magazine, is 27.7 oz; weight fully loaded will be a bit over 30 ounces. Maximum overall length is 7.5 inches; 5 3/8 inch height; and very nice thin 1.2 inch width. Barrel length is 4 1/4 inches with a 6 1/2 inch sight radius. This pistol, like all M&Ps, is full time double action, striker fire action, with a very consistent 6.5 pound trigger pull that only travels .300 inches from rest to fire and resets in only .14 inches. Frame is Black Zytel Polymer, and barrel and slide are Black Melonite finished stainless. The frame, as the photos show, incorporates a Picatinny Weaver type rail for light and laser mounting. Sights are rapid resolution 3 dot. Every specimen of the M&P series has a fully ambidextrous magazine release setup; it is as easy to switch sides on it as a Beretta 92. The M&P series takes all comers for ease of handling, positive feel, and reliability and consistency under the most adverse field and combat situations. This M&P 45 Safety variant commands retail prices in our area upwards of $700 apiece, if a person can even find one. Factory product code is 609206, exactly the same pistol as the civilian 109206 variant, only this one is not California compliant because of its SKU. The 6 prefix designates Demo status; and the factory label is an overwrite of original 307206, law enforcement number SKU.
