This is a very nice, Military Marked, World War I, British Officer's, Smith & Wesson, 2nd Model Hand Ejector(MKII), serial number 503xx, with original, military marked Combat holster. This set includes an original holster stamped with the broad arrow and the number "36" inside of the flap. The holster is in nice condition with minor surface crazing on top of flap from age. This revolver will fire .45 acp cal. in half-moon clips or .45 Long Colt cartridges. It retains most of the original blue. The left frame is marked with the usual British Military proofs and acceptance stamps. The bore is excellent and it functions perfectly in both single and double action. There are traces of case colors on the trigger and hammer. The original, checkered, Walnut grips with the S&W medallions are in nice condition and are stamped, "2 M.M.P." on the butt. This marking is to the British Military Mounted Police, 2nd Division. The Military Mounted Police (M.M.P.) was formed on August 1, 1877 and first engaged in combat in 1882 at the Battle of Tel el-Kebir. During World War One, the M.M.P. personnel accompanying the G.H.Q. Expeditionary Force, and the first five Divisions overseas, were still wearing blue clothing with red caps, and those with the Brigades consequently suffered heavy casualties during the early days as their distinctive dress made them conspicious targets. Members of the M.M.P. were volunteers who had served at least five years in the Army, were of exemplary character, and had transferred to the Corps from their parent regiments. They were usually selected from Cavalry Units. In 1927, the M.M.P. was formed into the Corps of Military Police (C.M.P.). At the beginning of World War One in 1914 there were less than 20 Mounted Military Police Officers. A rare combat outfit at a reasonable price. Need FFL or C&R license to ship.
