Marc Krebs master 1911 gunsmith is the one that came up with the snakeskin texture on 1911. He used it first on his personal gun, a 40 caliber 1911, then to the best of my knowledge on this gun, a 45 acp. From all I can find out Krebs only did 2 ground up build Steel Serpents and only one in 45acp, and this is it. A scratch built gun made from the best components. And since it is built from the ground up, every part has been worked over by Krebs, making this a true custom 1911. In addition to being a real tack driver this gun has the snakeskin texturfe executed the way it should be done. Alot of people/manufacturers copied the look but didn't want to get into all the extra effort involved in doing it the way he did. Slide your hand one way-smooth, slide the other and it catches, grippy without being abusive. This gun had some finish issues and I sent it back to Metaloy who did the original hardchrome work on it and they re-did it under warranty. When they say lifetime warranty they mean it. Gun has not been fired since re-finish. Krebs no longer builds 1911's, concentrating all his time on AK builds. SIngle stack guns by him are exceedingly rare. I have owned guns by just about all the top smiths and Marc Krebs' work can stand toe-to-toe with any of them. I may be interested in partial trades for custom knives, custom 1911's (commander size and smaller), Rolex, Panerai, or Ball Hydrocarbon watches.
Another thing to keep in mind is that every single scallop on the gun was done by Krebs on manual machinery-no cnc, no cast parts- that is one heck of a lot of machining.
