When Bersas began showing up in our area in the 1980s, we assumed they were quality pistols. We already had plenty of positive experience with Brazilian firearms, and we knew Argentina couldn't be far off. Besides, at that time, all Taurus had done by way of .380 handguns was the model 58, which was on a 9mm frame, a PT-58, which we interpreted as Pretty __ Thick. While the Taurus was a 92 frame, this Bersa is a Walther PPK take-off. Its maximum slide thickness is .865. With its hard rubber grips, this Bersa reaches a maximum frame thickness of only 1.34 inches at the widest point of the grips. Maximum height, including the flat floorplate, is 5 inches; with a maximum overall length of 6 1/2inches. Weight empty is only 21 1/2 ounces. Frame is hard chromed alloy, and slide and parts are satin chrome steel. Barrel is 3 1/4 inches, and capacity is 15 + 1 rounds. One area where Bersa outshines everybody else is safety. This is a traditional double action pistol in the first place, long double action trigger pull on the first shot from a resting-hammer position; then single action until the shooter decides to stop firing, engage the safety/decocker and put the car in park. This Bersa has a firing pin block safety, a manual safety / decocker, and even a magazine safety. It is equipped with a keyed internal lock. Note the windage adjustable rear sight, and highly visible three-dot sight picture with fluorescent red dots.
