Description: From the neighborhood of Fort Campbell comes this still attractive and serviceable Smith & Wesson .38 Military & Police Revolver. Some call it a Pre Model 10. From its C428000 range serial number, it should date to 1959. The absence of any model stamp, however, may date it older than that, because Smith & Wesson began stamping its mates as Model 10 in 1957. The only stamping inside the frame opposite the yoke surface is an encircled numeral 3, with the letter H to its right. Yoke bears number 55711, with the letters D and C on its surface. This specimen lacks a top side plate screw, but has the front trigger guard screw. General type is traditional double and single action service revolver. Barrel is 4 inch tapered Pencil type, with integral serrated blade front sight, 1:18.75 six groove right hand rifling, and pinned into the frame. Rear sight is frame integral fixed notch. Cylinder capacity is 6 rounds of .38 Smith & Wesson Special caliber ammunition. Trigger is .265 casehardened serrated face, with matching serrated spur hammer. Ignition is hammer nose type firing pin, and mechanism has a transfer bar safety device that prevents the firing pin from contacting a cartridge primer unless the trigger is fully depressed. Frame is medium K size, with square butt smooth surface grip frame equipped with original issue lanyard ring, or butt swivel. Grips are original factory walnut magna type service. The grips have been stripped mostly of their red paint, and the red paint may very well indicate military service. Other surface detractions are moderate, lateral holster wear on the barrel and lug, and on the frame and cylinder edges. Finish freckling is moderate as well, as the photos show, and includes the trigger and hammer sides. We rate this M&P as Good, perhaps Very Good, 70 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. Double action trigger pull is tight and original; and the hammer travels an additional 10 to 15 degrees after the cylinder times on all six positions with a slow double action pull. On single action, the hammer travels 25 to 30 degrees on all six after timing, and single action trigger pull gauges at a crisp 4 5/8 pounds. Lateral play to the cylinder is minimal, about 1mm. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap measures a perfect .006. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap directly above the barrel’s forcing cone is negligible, only a smooth plate with no cutting. We estimate this revolver has been fired fewer than 300 times, and not with any +P ammunition. It came to its collector from a pawn shop in the nearby Fort Campbell vicinity. While it’s possible that it served with the 101st, we are not going to spend $50 for a long shot to document that, because a letter is often inconclusive. It was manufactured in 1959 at the very latest, and perhaps as early as 1956. We’re offering it for only $ 339.00. Not transferable to non C&R civilians in Massachusetts.

Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
GA Pay buyers are NOT charged until we confirm we have the item and are ready to ship it. The same thing is true for phone-in, fax-in, and mail-in payments. In this respect, and in several others, Guns America outshines all its competitors. This is the best firearms website there is, hands down.
