Offered for your consideration is this vintage 1892 Sporting Rifle in the desirable 44-40 caliber. This is an antique manufactured in 1894, the second full year of production. The octagon barrel is 24 inches and has full coverage of plum blue patina. Both the barrel and magazine are tight and free of pitting. The front sight is a Winchester #21, the rear sight is a Winchester #24A. The bore is very good with good rifling. There is light frosting and minor wear. I rate the bore a 7 on 1 to 10 scale. It is an accurate shooter with both cast and jacketed bullets, the headspace is fine. The receiver is mechanically very good, feeds, chambers, fires and ejects smoothly. The receiver has the same plum blue patina coverage as the barrel, there is light carry wear on receiver top and bottom. There is no rust or pitting and the screw slots are still sharp. The wood is solid and tight, no cracks, chips, extra holes or dents of any significance. It appears the buttstock was cleaned up sometime in the past, the wood is flush+ with the tangs and buttplate. Overall a nice solid antique that has been well cared for. Just in time for this deer season!
