Richard Dyke founded Bushmaster Firearms in Windham,ME, a company that became one of the top quality manufacturers of AR's and set the standard of the Bushmaster name. In 2006, Cerberus purchased Bushmaster, adding it's other gun companies, like Marlin and Remington, as part of the Freedom Group. Bushmaster continued in the original Windham, Maine, location until March of 2011 when the operation was relocated to Ilion, N.Y. If you are familiar with what happened to Marlin's quality when it was moved from North Haven, CT to Illion, NY then you know what is happening to Bushmaster's as well.
The move closed the plant in Windham, ME and with that Bushmaster lost all of their experienced AR gunsmiths and employees. But when Richard Dyke's non-compete agreement expired he got new investors reopened the Maine facility and brought back many of the original employees under the name Windham Weaponry.
You can search the web for Windham Weaponry story and reviews, all I know is that they build an great AR rifle, with excellent quality for less than a comparable "Bushmaster" and a LIFETIME TRANSFERABLE WARRANTY. If you have ever experienced trying to get service work out of Illion, NY then you will really appreciate Windham Weaponry.
