L.C. Smith Trap Grade 16ga.- ENGLISH STOCKED, AS NEW, 1 of 288, RARE!

Whether you are a purist collector or a shooter/collector, owning a rare vintage American shotgun in excellent condition brings a certain sense of pride. The L.C. Smith guns are growing in popularity, soon to surpass Fox guns, in my opinion. The Trap Grade was a low production gun, with only 288 16ga. Trap Grades on record. To find one with a straight hand grip, single selective trigger, and ejectors is a treasure. This gun, serial number 220613, was built in 1919, and recently restored. Whoever did the work really new the L.C. Smith Trap Grade. It is true to factory finishes and looks exactly factory, so much so that it was hard to determine if it was restored. If you knew how many doubles I have had in my hands you would realize how big that statement is. Restorations done well are readily accepted in today’s market place and 5 years from now will be fully accepted by most of the collecting fraternity. There are few top condition guns left on the planet, and like this Trap Grade, every day more of the remaining guns fall under the restoration artist’s hand. If done well, they are investment quality guns and will give their new owner decades of good service.

The 28” barrels retain 98% rust blue, clear lettering, choked M/F (.024/.030, can be altered for $60 per barrel), excellent bores, internal bore diameter of .650/.652, minimum barrels wall thickness of 28 thou right, 25 thou left, no pits, scratches, dents, 2 9/16” chambers (can be opened to 2 ¾” with lengthened forcing cones to reduce recoil and possibly improve patterns, but required in order to shoot 2 ¾” shells. If you don’t know why, ask.), ribs are tight and barrels ring true, tight on breech face and hinge pin, a great set of barrels.

The action has perfect L.C. Smith bone and charcoal colors at 99%, excellent screws, single selective trigger that works to perfection, engraving clear and sharp, trigger guard at 99%, the action was stripped, inspected, cleaned, and properly lubed when it was restored so it is good for another couple of decades before needing attention.

The wood is appropriately figured for a Trap Grade, inletted and checkered to perfection, finish as new, original factory butt plate, 14” LOP to a mid-position single trigger (would measure 14 ½” to the front trigger if this were a double trigger gun, the stock is not short), 13 ¾” LOP to the end of wood, 2 3/8” drop at heel, 1 3/8” drop at comb, 1/8” cast on (stock can be altered to your specs by bending and/or the addition of a proper vintage pad for a small extra fee and within 10 days of purchase), no cracks, splits, or repairs, and GREAT SHOOTING DIMENSIONS! The gun has been restocked by a master at L.C. Smith stocker. THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT POINT. The stock is headed up properly so it will not split when shot, the checkering pattern is EXACTLY FACTORY, and the wood to metal fit exceeds the factory work. It is an advantage to have a new stock on an Elsie if you are going to shoot it much.

There are more photos of this gun, just ask. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER FINE VINTAGE DOUBLES ON THIS WEBSITE. Just click on the line in the ad that says “see all items from this seller” and a grand list of collectible and sporting arms will appear. I have 100 more not yet listed for sale, so just ask if you don’t see what you seek.
