Here is current production Mossberg 590 A1, the military spec, parkerized finish 590, Mossberg Number 51411. The Mossberg 590 shotgun, writes the Factory, is the pump action shotgun you can count on. They have the credentials and track record to prove it. The Mossberg military 590 model is the only pump action shotguns ever to pass all stringent U.S. Military MilSpec-3443 standards. Featuring parkerized finish, 3 inch chamber and top tang thumb safety. Capacity is 5 + 1 on 2 3/4 inch shells, or 4 + 1 on 3 inch magnums; like the competitor 870, however, the magazine tube will accept two shot or larger magazine extensions, and easily convert up to 7+1 capacity. Barrel is 18 inch Police Cylinder heavy barrel for withstanding high pressure loads and rough field use. Front sight is Hex based solid brass, threaded into place. Buttstock and forend are traditional serrated Corncob configuration forend with paneled-grip black buttstock that has a 1 inch smooth rubber recoil pad. Both pieces are high impact polymer. Metal is moisture resistant, non-glare parkerized steel on the barrel, magazine tube, and double steel slide arms, with a matching finish to the lightweight alloy receiver. Safety, as the photos show, is traditional Mossberg top tang, polymer construction and user-friendly for southpaws. Weight empty is a surprisingly light 6 3/4 pounds. Current pricing on the 590 A1 is upwards of $600 apiece in our area, and they still aren’t easy to find.
