Many of us who were old enough to vote for President Reagan in 1980 remember the Auto Ordnance Products of that era with fondness, but it was tinged with a bitter taste at the time because their 1911 Pistols back then were just too rough made. That is no longer the case, hasn't been for a long time, emphatically since Kahr Arms acquired Auto Ordnance ten years ago. The roughness of the Numrich Arms days is gone, replaced by Massachusetts precision on the 1911s made in Worcester, Massachusetts, late home of our store manager. This is Kahr's 1911TCA, the 1911A1 Custom Model Packed, as the box label puts it. Factory spiel is short and sweet, The Thompson Custom 1911 features include an adjustable trigger, combat hammer, stainless steel full length recoil guide rod, extended beavertail grip safety and extended magazine release. This fine pistol speaks for itself. Its surface and parts mating is as smooth as anybody's Smith & Wesson or even Kimber. This 1911TCA has its original factory grips, but its sole retail owner, one of our Texas Law Enforcement Executive trading firneds, added a nice set of imitation Ivory Panels. This Thompson 1991's only surface detractions is faint bushing and slide contact marking to its stainless barrel's surface, and a faint short amount of slide release contact to the side of the frame. We estimate it has been fired fewer than 400 rounds, just enough to break it in. It is in its original box. We rate it as Excellent, 95 percent, but photos should allow prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. Replacement price on this pistol and similar ones in our area is in the $800 - $900 range. We're offering this one, however, for only $ 629.95
