From its only home atop a Savage 110 Rifle, comes this specimen of one of Simmons Optical’s best products ever, their White Tail Classic WTC45, 4.5x14 Variable Power Rifle scope. Simmons Optical was under the gun to produce quality optics in their early years; the company formed in 1983, and this Scope is one of their first and best. Manufacturer was ScoPro Optical of Mandaluyong City, Philippines, an affiliate of Asia Optical. Importer was Simmons Outdoor Corporation of Thomasville, GA, now located in Overland Park, KS. Construction is aircraft grade aluminum alloy body, two piece, 1 inch diameter. Main tube length is 6 1/2 inches, with 5 1/2 inches of ring contact length. Overall length is 13 1/4 inches from the Objective Rim to the rear of the rubber armor ring on the eyepiece. Eyepiece diameter is 32mm; and objective diameter is 42mm with parallax adjustment from 25 yards to infinity. Weight is 17.9 ounces. This scope features 1/4 minute click adjustments for windage and elevation. Field of View at 100 yards is 22 feet on 4.5 power, down to 8 feet on 14 power. Eye Relief is rated at 3.1 to 3.8 inches, but our photographer claims to get a clear picture at longer than that. Crosshair is Simmons Truplex, similar to Leupold’s Duplex crosshairs, wide clearly defined outer post view with fine wires in the center. This scope’s only owner was from a substantial family in the Missouri Bootheel, just across the river from us, well raised devout hunters all of whom had more sense than to wipe a scope lens with their shirt tails. Lens coatings are fully intact with no signs of abrasions whatsoever. Surface detractions are moderate to extensive, with contact buffing and scouring on both bells, and some peeling to the matte polymer finish. We rate this scope as Very Good Condition, 70 percent vicinity; but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Replacement pricing on similar scopes made in the Philippines by competitors like Nikon and Burris ranges upwards of $300 apiece.
