Here is a very atrtractive well balanced piece of South African weapon, the Griffon 1911A1 Combat .45 ACP. This specimen was manufactured in the Republic of South Africa, and imported by Griffin Inc., Forth Worth Texas, and so marked. Construction is matte blue steel with an innovative slide and barrel configuration. Grip frame is standard length Commander size, and the barrel is standard Commander length 4 1/4 inch with matching slide. Note the very distinctive 8 port slide for heat dissipation during protracted firing sessions. Sights are modified MMC style tritium; and they appear to be full strength from our dark room inspection. Slide stop and main safety are extended serrated top blue steel; mainspring housing is C type flat serrated steel, and with matching blue steel beavertail grip safety. Hammer is skeleton commander type, steel construction and thicker made than your average bear in this type pistol. Trigger is serrated face aluminum alloy with overtravel adjustment port. Grips are original double diamond black rubber with finger grooved front strap; and both magazines are original RSA issue 7 shot. This pistol comes to us from one of our Virginia neighbors, who was its exclusive retail owner. Surface detractions are minimal, only faint amounts of frame contact to the forward edges of the slide, and faint whitening on some of the edges. We rate this Griffon 1911A1 Combat as Excellent in Box, since less than 10 percent of its surfaces are affected in our estimation. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. This Pistol is Excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Trigger pull gauges at a stiff original 6 pounds, but with minimal felt creep. Replacement pricing for similarly equipped pistols, if a person can even find a ported Commander, ranges upwards of $1500 apiece or even more; and this Griffon is somewhat of a rarity.
