This Winchester 1895 saddle ring carbine is chambered in the rare .30-'03 Springfield cartridge, it was made in 1915 and is in incredible condition. The rifle is all original in its configuration, there are a few tiny dings to wood and metal, there are a few small scratches on the receiver (they look larger than they are in the full side view pictures), there is some slight blue wear to the bottom of the magazine box and a small crack in the handguard near one of the rivets. About the .30-'03 Springfield cartridge: this was the original caliber for the Springfield M1903 rifle. Almost all '03 Springfield's were converted by the Army to .30-'06. Winchester offered the 1895 in both the .30-'03 and .30-'06 until about WWI. Some hunters preferred the .30-'03 as it used a heavier 220 grain bullet rather than the 150 grain bullet of the .30-'06. Dimensionally the only difference between the .30-'03 and the .30-'06 is the .30-'03 has a longer neck to better support the long 220 grain bullet. .30-'06 ammo can be safely fired in the .30-'03 chamber.
