Smith & Wesson Model 1940 Mk.I Semi-Auto Light Rifle "RARE", serial # 541. cal. 9 mm, with a 10" fluted barrel and a excellent bore, rifle retains 98%+ original blue finish, fixed front sight and adjustable rear sight mounted on receiver, company name & address on left front side of receiver also has the company S&W logo and trademark on left rear side of receiver, rifle is fitted with black composition butt stock with a sling loop on left side of butt, corresponding sling eye is around the barrel in front of receiver. Note: About 1,000 of these scarce carbines were produced in 1940 with the majority of them shipped to England for testing and a few were sent to Canada. These rifles failed the British endurance tests and it was redesigned into the Mark II that also met with very limited success. Most of the rifles were destroyed in testing and only a few remain intact today. These rifles are not considered safe to fire. Included is one original 20-rd magazine and an original Smith & Wesson brown leather sling. Overall condition is excellent this rifle is in Collectors Grade Condition.
