Anyone who has handled many vintage American double shotguns knows that the Fox gun is consistently the best handling gun of them all. This gun, sn303716, is no exception. Less than 10% of these guns were produced with a straight hand stock, so for those who love English style grips this is your opportunity to own a factory original so stocked. Weighing 6 1/4 lbs. and balanced just ahead of the hinge pin makes this fine double the perfect upland gun. Fox guns in 16ga. are built on a 20ga. frame, much like the coveted Parker 16ga. on an "O" frame, and this fine gun will make a very good investment quality firearm due to its condition and desirable features and shooting dimensions. The gun matches the factory production cards to the "T"; even the chokes are still as shipped by the factory. Shipped in 1938, this is a Savage gun that was built with the same care as any Philly gun, with excellent engraving, wood to metal fit, exceptional wood and checkering.

The 26" number 3 weight barrels are choked IC/F (.006/.032, can be opened by my gunsmith for $70 per barrel) and are newly rust blued to perfection with clear sharp lettering, mirror bores, .658 factory bore diameter, heavy wall thickness of 41 thousandths at their thinnest point, no pits or scratches, 2 3/4" chambers, ribs tight and barrels ring clear, no dents or dings, ejectors strong and timed, barrels tight on breech face, a great set of barrels.

The action is deeply engraved with very clear, sharp cuts, faint 40% case color, excellent screws, action tight and lever right of center, excellent double triggers, trigger guard 100% niter blue, stripped and cleaned this year by Vintage Firearms, all in excellent mechanical condition.

The English stock is nicely figured for an A Grade, with no splits, cracks, or repairs, newly restored to perfection with oil finish and freshened checkering, factory dimensions of 14 1/8" LOP to original plate, 2 3/8" drop at heel, 1 1/2" drop at comb, 1/4" cast on (stock can be bent to your specs for $180 within 10 days of purchase, excellent wood to metal fit, really a gorgeous set of factory original wood. What a sleek looking Fox!

It could be years before you see another ejector A Grade Fox small bore in this configuration. The availability of RIGHTEOUS Fox 16 gauge guns with ejectors has become very tight and as demand increases these guns will continue to increase in value making them a true investment quality shotgun. With all of the fine shotguns I handle I still believe the A.H. Fox to be one of the finest boxlock guns ever created, second to none in form and function. A finer pheasant gun I could not find with the light weight, perfect balance, and IC/F chokes. Equally at home in any upland coverts or breaking clays at your club, this is a versatile gun.
