Fox CE 12ga. – FACTORY ENGLISH STOCK, 30” BARRELS, GORGEOUS!
This is a 1921 vintage Philly Fox that has all of the most desirable features. Most will agree that less than 10% of the vintage American doubles were produced with English stocks and the buying/shooting public seems to love them as well. The French walnut on this factory stocked gun is fabulous, and the 30” number 3 weight barrels and single selective trigger really set this gun apart from the other CE Fox guns you may see for sale from time to time. I have been shooting this gun for about 5 years and had it fully restored 3 years ago. The case colors are true to the Fox originals, the rust blue is near perfect, and the factory checkering was touched up. The gun looks near new, and is historically correct to factory original finishes.
The 30” number 3 weight barrels retain 99% rust blue, excellent bores, double ivory beads, choked IM/F (.030/.042), minimum barrel wall thickness of 26 thousandths right barrel, 24 thousandths left barrel, clean, sharp lettering and engraving, no pits, dents, scratches, ribs are tight and barrels ring true, 2 ¾” chambers with lengthened forcing cones, EJECTORS that are strong and timed, excellent in all ways.
The receiver retains 99% restored Fox case colors, sharp clear engraving, excellent screws, Fox-Kautzky single selective trigger in the desirable MID POSITION, trigger guard has 99% niter blue, action tight on breech face and lever right of center, all internal parts recently cleaned and properly lubricated, everything in excellent mechanical order.
The factory English style buttstock with splinter forend is beautifully grained European walnut, checkering has been freshened and is excellent, no cracks or major dings, 14” LOP to new Silvers pad (measured from the mid position SST, equates to 14 ½” LOP to a front trigger if it were a 2 trigger gun, the stock is not short), 2 ½” drop at heel, 1 ½” drop at comb for great modern dimensions. What a great looking, racy gun with the long barrels and English stock/splinter forend!
This is a gorgeous example of what a CE Fox looked like when it left the factory. Weighing 7lbs. 5oz. and balancing ¼” ahead of the hinge pin, the gun is a very dynamic handling 12ga. gun that is ready for field or clays. I have several very capable gunsmiths that can alter this or any gun for you at a very reasonable cost. If you need the chokes altered or the stock bent, let me know and I can have it done to your specs within 10 days of your purchase. Using my gunsmith eliminates the long waits customarily experienced if you don’t have “dealer status”. This is an investment quality Fox that will increase in value as long as properly cared for, and a very rarely seen configuration.
I have many more photos upon request. This gun carries a 30 day mechanical warranty in addition to the standard 3 day inspection. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER FINE VINTAGE FIREARMS ON THIS WEBSITE. Just click on the line that says “see all items from this seller” and all of my offerings will come up. I have many other guns not yet listed so if you don’t see what you want, let me know. Thanks for looking!
