It has a KA frame, flat latch, fixed sights and a five screw frame a 2" barrel and was called the USAF M13. It weighted 14.5 oz. This has an alloy frame, round butt, steel barrel and a serial numbered cylinder that matched the S/N frame. The original model was developed by the USAF to provide a siginal/survial weapon. It was meant to use a 130 grain RNJ bullet with a light load of "Bullseye" like powder. By 1954 it was found that even with this light load the cylinder often often cracked after a few fireings. Most all USAF revolvers were destroyed but a few survived. These were dropped from the S&W line in 1954 and were replaced with the same revolver having a steel cylinder, weighting 18 oz. and known as the M&P Lightweight (M-12). These revolvers can have the cylinder replaced with a steel cylder and then used as a M-12.
