Description: Here is a pristine specimen of a revolver we grew up with, and very likely sold new on a wholesale basis in 1975 or 1976. We received RG 23s in 1975 with similar serial number range to this one’s 461000 number. This is the most popular of the RG rimfire revolvers, the RG 23 that is a true swingout and whose cylinder stays attached to the yoke and operates simply by pulling its ejector rod. The less expensive RG 14 mate had a pin that came completely out into the operator’s hand. The RG 23, however, has a true ejector star just like a Smith & Wesson model 34. Type is double- and single action swingout revolver with transfer bar safety device that protects against discharging if the revolver is dropped. Construction is blue steel cylinder, main barrel, hammer, trigger, and internal parts built into a semi-gloss black pot metal frame with upper barrel shroud or rib and sight that is also pot metal. Barrel length is 3 3/8 inch; most of these had 1 3/4 inch barrels. Grip frame is semi-square butt, where the mate RG 14 was more of a true round butt revolver. Cylinder holds 6 rounds of .22 Short, Long, or Long Rifle cartridges. This RG 23 comes to us from a local estate, and we do not believe it has been fired at all; or 6 to 12 rounds at the most, attest the lack of carbon on the cylinder face. This RG 23 is in its original box with blue warranty statement and factory manual and exploded view. Its factory direct parts list prices replacement cylinders at $7.50, hammer at $2.00, and many parts at 40 cents apiece plus $2.00 shipping. The retail price of $38.36 is still neatly written on the edge of the box lid. When RG Industries fell victim to the Sarah Brady lawsuit and closed up shop in 1986, wholesale pricing was about that figure. In 1976, these were still in the $20 wholesale price range. This one is excellent throughout, near mint in our estimation, and its photos should confirm that call. Mechanically, it is as excellent as it ever was. The RGs, after all, were cheap guns, not good guns. The RG 23s were pretty good little revolvers, so long as a person stayed away from CCI Ammunition, especially hyper velocity like stingers. If someone actually wants to fire this nice old cheap gun, we’d recommend standard velocity ammunition. It is very attractive and, on our view, eminently collectable. We’re offering the RG 23 Revolver in the photo for only $ 189.00. Not transferable to civilians in California, Chicago, District of Colombia, Massachusetts, or South Carolina. Not C&R Eligible until 2026. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> $10 lower 48; $30 Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico, USPS Priority Mail, insured with Delivery Confirmation. Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
GA Pay buyers are NOT charged until we confirm we have the item and are ready to ship it. The same thing is true for phone-in, fax-in, and mail-in payments. In this respect, and in several others, Guns America outshines all its competitors. This is the best firearms website there is, hands down.
