Smith & Wesson Model 2 Army Old Model. SN:113xx. A wonderful piece of American history, and the predecessor to modern firearms capable of firing the self contained ammunition. Released just in time for the commencement of hostilities in the Civil War. Single action, tip-up style frame, no trigger guard (spur trigger), round blade front sight driven into the barrel with a notch cut in the cylinder top leaf, 6 in. octagonal ribbed barrel with an excellent bore for a firearm from this era, roll mark "Smith & Wesson Springfield Mass." is present on the top of the rib, chambered for the .32 long rimfire cartridge, 6 shot non fluted cylinder with the roll mark "Patented April 3,1855, July 5,1859 & Dec 18, 1860" around the circumference, forged wrought iron frame, smooth rosewood plow handle grips on a square butt frame, frame has a side plate on the left side. This model is among the estimated 80% that were blued from the factory. 77,155 were manufactured between 1861-1874. On this particular revolver, the single screw that holds the side plate intact is broken but still present, and the cylinder will not index. Hammer does stay in the full cocked position. There is some wiggle between the barrel and frame hinge, which is common in these tip-up revolvers. No box. More pictures available for serious inquirers.
