From its 0 range serial number, this Ruger Mini 14 GB Government Model stainless was manufactured during the final year of production for this variant, 2004. Manufacturer, of course, was Sturm Ruger & Co., of Southport, CT. Construction is stainless steel, with steel inner parts, matte blue steel front sight and bayonet lug assembly, and black anodized rear sight with blue steel aperture blades. Stock is factory Ruger black synthetic with matching barrel guard piece. Type is gas operated semi-automatic rifle, on a miniaturized order from the US M-14, hence the model’s name. Barrel is standard diameter 18 inch stainless, 1:9 rifling with factory cage type muzzle brake, total barrel length of 20 inches from the muzzle to the breech face. Rear sight is old style shouldered with 4 position click adjustment for elevation, and screw-windage adjustable, ghost ring or aperture / peep sight. Safety lever is forward leaf type, standard mini 14. Forend’s gas block assembly holds a forward non detachable sling swivel, with matching permanent swivel on the buttstock. Weight empty with magazine in battery is 7 pounds 1 ounce with center of gravity at the breech face. Length of pull is 13 1/8 inches from the .250 smooth faced trigger to the end of the 3/4 inch factory butt pad. Magazine is factory Ruger and so marked, capacity 20 rounds of .223 Remington Caliber ammunition, 20+1 total capacity with this Mag-20 magazine. Note that this magazine is the original issue piece, stamped Law Enforcement only as required during the period that ended in September 2004. This specimen served our fellow Americans in Massachusetts during its career. Surface detractions are moderate, principally moderate amounts of light streaks on the exposed surface of the barrel, and faint amounts of edge buffing. We rate this Rifle as Very Good, perhaps even Excellent Condition, 85 to 90 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. We estimate this rifle was fired fewer than 500 times during its law enforcement career, no rounds at all for a Mini 14. This is not only an attractive and serviceable Mini 14, it is eminently collectable. It was one of the last traditionally configured GB variants to leave Southport, with the changes that took place beginning in 2005, where all its tactical descendants came with short barrels.
