From one of our best Henderson County Tennessee collectors comes this light, attractive Winchester Olin Slide Action model 1200 Skeet. From its L200000 range serial number, it was manufactured in the late 1960s. Manufacturer was Winchester Olin of New Haven, CT; barrel and steel part construction is Winchester Proof Steel, and so marked on the barrel. Receiver is gloss black anodized alloy, with raised rib ramp on top. Stock and forend are select figured, press checkered American Walnut. Grip cap is blue steel, and length of pull on the buttstock is dead 14 inches from the .270 smooth steel trigger’s face to the end of the black polymer original factory buttplate, with a 1 inch right hand cant. Stock drop is standard 1 1/2 inches at the comb, and 2 1/2 inches at the heel, but the raised rib assembly makes this one of the sweetest pointing shotguns a person ever held. Barrel is 12 port, 13 post, .375 wide serrated top Ventilated Rib, .285 above the barrel at the middle stainless bead area. Front sight is steel housed red bead, the high-visibility sight of its day. Muzzle diameter is .612. Weight empty is 7 pounds, 1 ounce with center of gravity at the breech face. Chambering, of course, is 20 gauge, 2 3/4 inch shells only. Magazine capacity is 4 rounds, 4+1 total, and the original wood adapter or plug is still in place. Surface detractions on this 1200 Skeet are moderate, principally some small streaks on the receiver, and a few scours on the buttstock finish left side. Note the superficial hairline crack on the forend’s forward edge at 7 o’clock, we do not see any separation at all. We rate it as Very Good, close to Excellent, 85 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. From our knowledge of this shotgun’s owner, and from the minimal amount of shell contact whitening to the shell carrier or floorplate, we estimate it has been fired fewer than 600 times. This is an eminently serviceable, attractive, and collectable shotgun.
